Support and Information
 |
The center serves as a resource for information
regarding services and programs offered to senior
citizens who have particular needs. Our center staff
can help and provide assistance with housing, HEAP,
energy assistance, Medicare and Medicaid forms,
Homestead Exemption, Golden Buckeye Cards, electric
bills, TARTA free bus passes and applications for
TARPS. We also serve as a coupon distribution site
for Senior Farmer’s Market Program in June through
October. If we cannot offer a service directly, the
staff will refer the individual to an appropriate
community agency. |

Volunteer Opportunities
 |
Many positions throughout the operations of the
center are filled by volunteers. All volunteers are
registered with the Retired Senior Volunteer
Program. Gift shop- seniors may sell crafts and
wares on consignment. |

Foster Grandparent Volunteer
Program
 |
Senior Centers, Inc. sponsors the Foster Grandparent
Program- seniors are placed in community agencies to
work with special needs children 15-40 hours per
week. Foster Grandparents receive an hourly stipend
and daily meal allowance. All Grandparents complete
an orientation including complete background check
and monthly in-service training. |

Outreach
 |
In order to inform the community about our many
programs and services a newsletter and activity
schedule are published monthly. This newsletter is
mailed to persons in the community on a regular
basis. |

Househelpers Service
 |
Light housekeeping services are offered to seniors
in their home by our trained, qualified staff as
well as employees to run errands for you to the
grocery store, post office, drug store, etc.
Services include mopping, dusting, vacuuming, clean
the bathrooms, clean the kitchen and appliances,
take out garbage and change bed linens. We are not
allowed to climb on ladders, handle finances,
perform personal care tasks or prepare meals. Nominal
fee charged per hour on a sliding fee scale. Lucas
County residents only. |

Transportation Services to Seniors
 |
A program for Lucas County residents, coordinated by
Senior Centers, Inc. Registered seniors use this
transportation service for medical trips only. A
reservation is required 48 hours in advance. Call
for application. Nominal fee charged for each one
way trip. |

Center Transportation
 |
Using the senior center van, seniors are picked up
to go to and from the senior center Monday through
Friday. Service area is limited to a designated area
surrounding the senior center. Nominal fee charged.

Grocery shopping
 |
Offered once per week on our center van. Nominal fee
charged. |
|
 |
Nutrition
 |
A hot nutritious meal is served on a daily basis at
11:40 a.m. This meal is offered by the Lucas County
Senior Nutrition Program funded through the Area
Office on Aging. A donation is suggested from the
senior to help offset the cost of the meal.

Day Habilitation
 |
A program providing recreational services for
persons with Mental Retardation and Developmental
Disabilities for Lucas County residents, 5-7 hours
per day of supervised recreational programming,
fully integrated with other center activities. Able
to accept private pay, Individual Options and Level
One Waiver reimbursements. |

Education
 |
Professional speakers from local agencies,
businesses and hospitals are scheduled on a regular
basis to provide educational presentations on a
variety of topics (health, nutrition, legal issues
and services of interest). |

Creative instruction
 |
Seniors have the opportunity to acquire knowledge
and skills for personal enrichment through classes
in exercise, chess, quilting, ceramics, and
knitting. A computer lab is also available with some
staff instruction in basic computer skills.

Health Screenings
 |
Health assessments and screenings provided on a
regular basis by reputable health care professionals
from the community for blood pressure, glaucoma,
hearing, blood sugar and foot care.

Recreation
 |
Many programs are offered to expand the senior
citizen's opportunity for satisfying leisure time,
to help facilitate social contact, reduce isolation
and improve personal life satisfaction. Activities
include parties, arts and crafts, pool, cards,
games, films, exercise, day trips and various
entertainment programs. Nominal participation fee
for each program. |
